Organizing a Yearbook ~ Lesson 1

For many people the yearbook may be the only place where their name appears in print. A good yearbook is many things to many people. Read the descriptions below, then create a Word document and explain in your own words:

  • what would make you want to buy a Shuswap yearbook?
  • what is the most important part of a yearbook to you?
  • will you be getting friends to sign your yearbook?
  • what will you be looking for in your yearbook when you open it in 20 years?
People book
a yearbook should include as many people as possible, not just the popular ones.
Record book
the yearbook should give an accurate account of all the events as they happen during the year.
Memoirs book
the yearbook should be biographical including quotes and information about sports, activities, assemblies, field trips, graduation, and other significant events.
Story book
a good yearbook should contain funny stories and colorful descriptions of the happenings, feelings, comments, and attitudes of the people who were part of this school year.
History book
yearbooks are used to check out information about people you went to school with.
Public relations book
a yearbook should project a positive image about the school to the general public. The public is involved through advertising, donations to special school functions, and parents.
Time Capsule book
the yearbook reflects a style, attitude, idea, and feelings from one specific year.
The Yearbook staff agree to be alert and aware of whats happening, to be open to possibilities and to include everyone in the  school in the book as often as possible and to formulate a manuscript that will eagerly relate through words and pictures the positive feelings of the students during this school year.
